Foundation has nominated First Lady Esther Lungu to receive a humanitarian honoree award in the United States (US) this week.
Starkey is a charity group founded by William Austin that aids hearing-impaired people globally.
Starkey Foundation president Richard Brown said Ms Lungu was expected to receive her reward at the 17th annual ‘So the world may hear’ award gala slated for Minnesota, USA.
Mr Brown said Ms Lungu was nominated because of her contribution to uplifting the welfare of underprivileged people in Zambia.
He said Ms Lungu, who is patron of the Esther Lungu Foundation Trust, had empowered and inspired many Zambians to make a difference in their communities.
Mr Brown said the foundation was pleased that Ms Lungu was among other people that had inspired efforts to accelerate the provision of hearing aids, raising more awareness and connecting people with their families and communities.
This is according to a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday by First Secretary for Press and Public Relations at the Zambian Embassy in Washington DC Cosmas Chileshe.
Meanwhile, outgoing Z a m b i a n C h a rg e ` d’Affaires in Washington Joseph Chilaizya said Ms Lungu was expected in Minnesota on Thursday to receive the award.
Mr Chilaizya said the Zambian mission in Washington was delighted that Ms Lungu’s charity works did not only impact the lives of Zambians but those on the globe as recognised by Starkey and other organisations.
He said the First Lady was expected back home on Monday after attending to the activities lined up for her in Minnesota.
